Professional Experiences in Being a Mediator
Being a mediator is a great addition in my career and for my practice. I have been able to serve divorcing couples to minimize their conflicts throughout one of their most challenging experiences. They are able to negotiate their needs and wants fairly in the mediation process. Couples find mediation to be very helpful to prevent any additional emotional trauma. Parenting issues and property division are often the major areas of discussion in mediation.
Approaches in Mediation
Provide a less stressful environment. The mediator must maintain neutrality throughout the process of mediation. My role is to help clients understand what they want and need in order to negotiate in a fair manner. Asking questions, reframing, and reflecting are one of the most useful methods to help clients gain clarity in their situations. Clients must take full responsibility for an equitable outcome.
When Do We Need Mediation?
We need mediation when we are:
- Not able to resolve the differences calmly
- Not able to divide the property equitably
- Not able to resolve the parenting issues
